Menarys was founded in 1923 by Cookstown Draper Joseph Alexander, the great-uncle of our current Managing Directors, Stephen and Philip McCammon. After buying over Menary Brothers in Lisburn in the 1970’s, their father, Brian McCammon adopted the Menarys name and all Alexander’s stores were rebranded.
Following rapid expansion in the 1980’s and 90’s, Menarys launched sister company Tempest in 2000 to provide a stronger fashion offering to our younger customers. With over 100 years in Business, Menarys employ in excess of 150 members of staff and have over 100,000 Reward Me Loyalty Card holders.
Local and Independent
Over the years, Menarys has become focal points in local communities across Ireland. Our identity as a local and independent retailer is so important to us and this characteristic permeates everything we do. We support our local communities in various ways including job creation, charity work and social development. We love providing a platform for local suppliers and we know our customers do too. Each Menarys store has developed its own personality shaped by both our staff and their local community and we hope those relationships continue for years to come.

As one of the country’s leading Independent Retailers, Menarys has become synonymous with a form of traditional customer service that has become such a rarity in the world of retail today. Our teams have created a fantastic culture of friendliness and familiarity regardless of location. Our staff not only know our customer’s names, and vice versa, they have also become part of their lives. Almost 20% of our staff have been a member of the Menarys team for more than 15 years.
Local Charity Partnerships
Menarys have always had a commitment to partnering with local Charities and over the years have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds through a range of fundraising initiatives instore and among our teams.
Some examples include: the “MENARATHON”, where our teams walked over 100 miles across the province, from one store to another in a full circuit of Ulster including Donegal and raised a staggering £55,000 for Ulster Cancer foundation!! Other huge fundraising achievements was a five year partnership with Action Cancer which raised a massive £75,000, as well as Leukaemia and Lymphoma NI which raised almost £10,000 in a one year partnership. In 2024 & 2025, we had a very impactful Partnership with Air Ambulance NI in which the teams raised an impressive £67,190.
Menarys have just recently confirmed a NEW PARTNERSHIP with NI Hospice & NI Children’s Hospice and all our store teams are actively working on fundraising for that.

Our fitting consultants are also trained to measure and provide advice on choosing bras for maternity, nursing and post-mastectomy.
